During a new interview on John Kennedy’s Radio X show, the Cure frontman Robert Smith disclosed that the band will be releasing a new album “hopefully before next summer.” In November, the Cure released Songs of a Lost World, their first new record in 16 years, and Smith has previously teased that he has two albums of new material in the works. The goth legend referred to the new record as a “companion piece to Songs of a Lost World,” saying that he is “currently finishing” the album, “I just need to mix it.” Smith revealed that the new project will include “probably 10 songs,” calling it “not as dark” as Lost World before admitting “it actually has probably the saddest song of all of them on it.” These new songs date back to earlier recording sessions, with Smith sharing that “in 2019 we recorded 24 songs for what was going to be a double album, and those eight have come out” on Songs of a Lost World.
