On Sunday (April 13), Coheed and Cambria were honored with the key to their hometown of Nyack, New York, with mayor Joe Rand declaring it “Coheed and Cambria Day.” During the SpringFest Street Fair at Hezekiah Easter Veterans Memorial Park, the band received the key to the village and performed an acoustic set featuring stripped-down renditions of “A Favor House Atlantic,” “Someone Who Can,” “Goodbye, Sunshine,” and “Corner My Confidence.” During his acceptance speech, frontman Claudio Sanchez expressed gratitude to Nyack’s creative community for helping shape his life. “Nyack has brought so many interesting and creative people together,” said Sanchez, calling the place a “beautiful town to grow up in.” Sanchez attended Nyack High School, and the band got their start with regular performances at the Nyack Center’s weekly youth event. Sanchez still owns a house in Nyack, and lead guitarist Travis Stever lives in the village full-time with his family, with his wife serving on the board of the Nyack Park Conservancy.
