The Sydney, Australia childhood home of the founding AC/DC brothers Angus and Malcolm Young has been mistakenly demolished by developers who claim that they had no idea about the musical significance of the house. The property was officially listed on the National Trust List of Historic Homes back in 2013, but after being purchased by developers in February of 2023 for $5.8 million, it was recently levelled in order to build a $28.75 million residential site. Developers Burwood Square Pty Ltd have stated that they were not informed of the home’s cultural importance before the demolition.

“We regret that the previous long-term owner did not share this vital part of the property’s background with us,” said Leon Kmita, Burwood Square Pty Ltd general manager. “ We are genuinely sorry for this oversight.” Kmita said his team plans to salvage materials from the site and create a “special space” where AC/DC fans can “gather to celebrate the band’s enduring legacy.” (Consequence of Sound)
