During the final date of their Dark Matter World Tour in Sydney on Saturday night (November 23), Pearl Jam covered the Temple of the Dog anthem, “Hunger Strike,” for the first time in ten years. Notably, it was the very first time the group performed the song live since the 2017 death of Chris Cornell, who wrote the 1991 grunge hit and sang on the track alongside PJ frontman Eddie Vedder. The last time Pearl Jam performed “Hunger Strike” live was on October 26, 2014 at Neil Young’s Bridge School Benefit, where they were joined by Cornell as a special guest vocalist.

Pearl Jam dusted off some other live rarities for their last show of the tour, with Vedder performing a solo cover of the Bruce Springsteen classic, “No Surrender,” for the first time since 2006, which he dedicated to the Boss who was finishing up his own tour that weekend in Vancouver. “Bruce Springsteen is magic, and he makes magic, and he works hard to make magic,” Vedder said. “But he also has songs of strength.” (Consequence of Sound)
